Silverback Lodge Unveils New Look After Major Renovation

Perched on a ridge overlooking the majestic Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Silverback Lodge has reopened its doors following a complete and ambitious redesign. The renovation marks a significant evolution for the lodge, transforming it from a cozy outpost into a destination that combines contemporary luxury with a deep respect for its natural surroundings.

The new design, led by the renowned HesseKleinloog Studio (the same firm behind Rwanda’s Singita Kataza House and Kwitonda Lodge), features a quiet, minimalist aesthetic. The goal was to create a space that feels in harmony with the forest rather than in competition with it. The updated property showcases clean, contemporary lines, large expanses of glass, and interiors that draw inspiration from Ugandan heritage. Materials such as polished concrete, eucalyptus timber beams, and locally sourced woven crafts have been used to create an elegant yet authentic atmosphere.

The newly refurbished lodge is a testament to thoughtful design. The guest rooms are now elevated, glass-lined sanctuaries, with interiors dressed in tones of charcoal, stone, and bark that echo the colors of the forest. Each element, from the custom furniture to the soft linens, is designed to enhance the experience, allowing guests to feel connected to the wilderness outside.

The main lodge features a redesigned restaurant and a new dining deck that floats over the forest canopy, offering breathtaking views. This communal space provides a perfect setting for guests to relax and share stories of their gorilla trekking adventures, all while immersed in the serene sounds and sights of the jungle.

A Commitment to Community and Conservation at Silverback Lodge

Beyond the physical transformation, the renovation project at Silverback Lodge reflects a strong commitment to both community development and conservation. Over 90% of the construction workforce was hired from the local communities surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The project also established collaborations with local artisans, who were trained and contracted to supply handcrafted woodwork, ceramics, and furniture for the lodge.

The lodge’s relaunch is part of a broader vision from its owner, Marasa Africa, to not only provide a world-class tourism experience but also to create long-term sustainability for local livelihoods and wildlife. This approach ensures that guests’ visits contribute directly to the well-being of the region and its people, making the experience more meaningful and impactful.

With its new look and renewed purpose, Silverback Lodge is ready to welcome guests, offering a refined, elegant, and unmistakably authentic base for an unforgettable gorilla safari.
