Volcanoes National Park is 160-square kilometers in size, within the North-western side of Rwanda and is about 116 kilometers from Kigali City. There are other wildlife species such as spotted hyenas, buffaloes, leopards, duikers, bushbucks, giant forest hogs, forest elephants and bush pigs.

Detailed Itinerary of Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Tour:
Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park, 3 hours journey
On this day, you will make the 3 hours’ drive north to Volcanoes National Park, one of Rwanda’s most popular safari destinations. Along the way, make a serious point to stop at the Genocide memorial centers, Art and craft galleries and other outstanding tourist sites in Kigali City. A few hours later, you will continue with your journey to the Northern Province and arrive in the afternoon. Get checked into your Lodge and explore the surrounding at your leisure.

Day 2: Explore Volcanoes National Park – Gorilla trekking & cultural tour
Leave the safari lodge in the morning and make your way to Kinigi Park Headquarters, for briefing and allocation into any of the 12 habituated gorilla groups. You will first be driven to the gorilla trekking starting point then start walking through the forest while spotting different animals and birds along the way.
You will walk for 1-4 hours and finally meet the endangered mountain gorillas to spend one hour observing their behavior and taking photos. After the 2-5 hours’ fun, you will head back to the lodge for lunch and relax for a short while.
The afternoon, you will enjoy a rewarding cultural encounter within the Gorilla Guardians’ Village. Visit the traditional healer and learn about plants used in treating common ailments, go through banana beer brewing, be entertained in traditional dances, visit the local school and visit the King’s Palace replica among others.
