What Is the Best Time for Gorilla Trekking in Uganda?
Mountain gorilla trekking is possible throughout the year. However, some months generally offer drier conditions that may make hiking more comfortable.
June to September: The main dry season
These months are popular for gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Trails may be less muddy, making movement through the forest easier in many conditions. This is also a busy travel period, so we recommend arranging gorilla permits and preferred lodges well in advance.
Mid-December to mid-March: Another favourable period
This period generally offers another opportunity to enjoy relatively drier trekking conditions. It can be an excellent time to combine gorilla trekking with other Ugandan wildlife experiences.
April, May and November: The wetter months
Rain is more frequent during these months, and forest trails can become muddy and slippery. Nevertheless, gorilla trekking continues, and the rainforest can be particularly lush and atmospheric.

A four-day itinerary allows time to arrive in Entebbe, enjoy a night near Lake Victoria, fly to the Bwindi region, experience gorilla trekking and return to Entebbe for your onward journey.

Your 4-Day Luxury Gorilla Trekking Uganda Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe and a Relaxing Start
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by our airport meet-and-greet representative, who will assist with your arrival formalities and luggage collection where the service is available.
You will then meet your personal driver-guide, who will welcome you to Uganda and introduce you to the journey ahead.
Transfer to Entebbe Forest Lodge, our recommended starting point for a comfortable and relaxing first night. We recommend arriving between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., where flight schedules permit, to allow time to settle in and enjoy the surroundings.
In the afternoon, enjoy a complimentary two-hour sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria, including snacks and drinks, subject to the final booking arrangements and weather conditions.
As the sun sets over the lake, relax and take in the peaceful atmosphere before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Meals: Dinner, subject to arrival time and package arrangements.
Day 2: Fly to Bwindi and Discover Batwa Culture
After breakfast, transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your scheduled domestic flight to Kihihi Airstrip in southwestern Uganda. The flight is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, subject to the operating schedule.
On arrival, your local driver-guide will welcome you and transfer you towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive typically takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on your lodge’s location and road conditions.
Enjoy the beautiful scenery of rolling hills, rural communities and the lush forest landscapes of southwestern Uganda along the way.
Upon arrival at your lodge, receive a warm welcome and refreshments before lunch and time to relax.
In the afternoon, visit a Batwa cultural community experience to learn about the traditions, heritage and history of one of the region’s Indigenous communities. Through storytelling, cultural demonstrations and interaction with community members, gain a deeper appreciation of the people whose history is closely connected to the forest.
Return to your lodge for dinner and a restful evening in preparation for the following day’s gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
The day you have been anticipating begins early with breakfast at the lodge.
Prepare your trekking essentials, including sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, gardening gloves and drinking water. Your driver-guide will take you to the designated park headquarters for the ranger briefing, group allocation and instructions on responsible gorilla trekking.
You will then enter the forest with experienced park rangers and guides to search for a habituated mountain gorilla family.
The trek can take several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location, terrain and forest conditions. Some treks are relatively short, while others require a more demanding hike. A reasonable level of physical preparation is recommended.
Then comes the extraordinary moment: finding the gorillas.
You will be allowed to spend one hour observing the gorilla family, following the rangers’ instructions and keeping the required distance. Watch as the gorillas feed, groom, rest and interact within their family group. It is a remarkable opportunity to appreciate these endangered primates in their natural environment.
After the trek, return to the park headquarters, where you may receive a gorilla trekking certificate in accordance with the park’s arrangements. Continue back to your lodge for lunch or refreshments, followed by an afternoon at leisure.
Spend the evening reflecting on your experience, surrounded by the tranquillity of the forest.

Upon arrival in Entebbe, connect to your onward international flight, allowing sufficient time between flights for baggage collection, check-in and any required airport formalities.
